I've got to say if there's one plant I would recommend as a Bee attraction it would be Echinops. I posted pics earlier of the Bees on the Echinops in the borders but it's just amazing as they just keep coming. I don't know of any other plant where 8 or nine Bees will be working on the same flower not even Teasels. These are pics from yesterday.:snork:

I've just noticed that they all look the same species of bee.

They seem to be working groups of species, one lot would fill their leg bags full of pollen and another species be straight in after them, and there are several species that I've counted. I even made the mistake of dead heading a spent Dahlia head and got stung on the finger by a Bee, that I didn't see, resting underneath.:gaah: My fault, not the Bee's:doh:

He was "defensive" (and rightly so after all those challenges listed in last nights bee programme - BBC2 )

Anyway, a little sting, to a human, is little more than an "adrenaline rush" (and we know how costly *that* can be: consider it a freebie :lunapic 130165696578242 5:)

Well, considering all the pollen I supply the Bees with I thought it was a bit cheeky!!:snork:

Today there were a few of our ginger compost bin bees out and about - one landed on Mr S while he was picking his chillies - saw another on a marigold

Think this might be a wasp - having a good rummage in a geranium - while a fly looked on ...
Two for the price of one.jpg
And my first Lily Beetle (before its demise) - I only have 2 pots - not even in flower yet - how did it find me ?
