We have got bee's in our bird box as well, 1st year, but the box is in the sun from 6am to 12 o clock and i think the nest get to hot and they start buzzing there wings in the hole to cool the nest, so every now and then i spray some water around the box and they stop :dbgrtmb:

Absolutely Jenny, there are several species of bees visiting the garden, including plenty of the ones that used the nest box :blue thumb:

We had exactly the same bees nest in our shed - they had taken up residence in some stacked lounger cushions - shredded them to bits :gaah:. We had to move them and we put the whole cushion under a compost bin with the front off. Activity has been a lot less this last couple of weeks - some flying up to it and flying away without entering - and after seeing your post that yours had vacated we took a peek yesterday - slightly lifting a cushion with a long stick - still a few there and I saw a queen crawling about - so now waiting - interested to see what they have built inside
I saw the one on Springwatch in the birdbox which was ball shaped - but of course inside a flat cushion it might be different.

Are you going to clean the box out at some stage ? and, if so, photograph it ?
