When you can't go past a Garden Centre without going in, even if you don't need anything.

Thanks for clearing that up, Zigs. I thought it was when I began putting down roots.

                Ta :)

Foolishly left my mate alone with some Jehovah's witnesses while I was carving that, he told them that "He who sups with the devil must carve his own spoon."

Wondered why they left so quick when I got back from the kitchen:doh:

                  Hi Zigs, @Zigs
Mrs Shiney has been posting, occasionally, on here for years using my avatar/membership as I never log out of GC. Can she use this thread?

As you know, she has lots of crafty hobbies and I'm sure she would like to post things here. :blue thumb:

That looks amazing. What wood do you use for that? Did you use knives or chisels?

Of course Mrs Shiney can, you didn't need to ask, although we would have thought it a bit odd that you've suddenly started making jewellery

Just an old bit of pine Jane, think I used a Stanley knife, mind you that was 20 odd years ago. Still cooking with the spon:)

If you come on holiday down here, there's a craft wood supplier a few minutes off the A303

http://www.yandles.co.uk/ All sorts of different wood for sale there, you'd love it.

Like a great willow, the established gardener knows patience, and may not put down roots for some time, until it knows the time, and conditions are right.

                            Completely agree.

MrH took up wood carving a few years ago and we've been to Yandles a few times. They have Spring and Autumn shows where you can see displays and demonstrations as well as pick up off cuts of various woods. For example, he bought a couple of small blocks of paduak and purpleheart for about 50p each and made the mouse and wren below. These aren't traditional carving woods as they are very hard and don't take detail well but the colours and grain pattern make them interesting.

PS he uses chisels and knives many of which he has bought at Yandles as they have discounts on show days.
