The main question to be answered is: is it edible? ;)

Not just edible, but edible and delicious, and on occasion, slightly medicinal in the sense that I know what ingredients work well to rectify various minor ailments.

Well spotted. I missed that one.

Its usually the beard that wins em over. You know you can trust a man with a beard.

Try something very rich in garlic. Include Rosemary to serve as an anti inflammatory for the skin and to subdue the smell of garlic sweat/breath. Go easy on the tomato or red peppers which are both common irritants and will make any skin ailments flare up worse.

I'm being bitten as well "M". For instant relief although it's not food based, soak a piece of cotton wool or similar in hot water.....and I mean as hot as you can stand it (burns your fingers) and then hold it on the bites, repeat two or three times, it'll give you relief for up to eight hours. My daughter told me the Canadians cut a lime and rub that on the bites, I tried it today but it only lasted a couple of hours.

Sounds a bit like a bread poltice. Pour boiling water onto bread to make it mushy, then as soon as its cooled enough to just withstand, slap it on the swollen skin and if necessary bandage it in place. As the bread dries it will suck the toxins out of the wound and seal it to prevent infection.

Can not beat STOVIES for a cheap quick meal
Diced potatoes, corned beef/beef sausages, and a bit of onion boiled down to a sludge

The real recipe is neck of lamb, diced potatoes and onion boiled down to a sludge
(ie the potatoes are still sort of a slushy diced potato)

                        Yummy and quick

I love stovies - been a wee while since I made them, but they usually go down well. I can even get beef links from the butcher I use, which is unusual for down here.
