Thank you Grannie, I cannot take credit for the tree as she was here when we moved in, altho maybe she looks so well because I do give her the odd pat now and again (sad or what!?). I think the reason I don't get too many slugs on the Hostas is because I use horse manure with shavings in it as a mulch. When the manure dries out a la this year:) the manure is quite crusty and "sharp" for slugs, so a bit like using egg shells as protection. That's my best guess as to why the majority of my Hostas have not been munched. I have a couple of Hostas which didn't get mulched and they look like string bags and confirmed that I do have plenty around but they don't seem prepared to slide over the mulch I put down:hapydancsmil:. This affect is totally coincidental not me having had a brainwave!

Having grown Nicotiana for the last few years I don't think I could have a garden without now, they put on such a good display right through summer and have a sweet perfume. :)

Boogered if I know! It's a very exposed spot too, although it does get the best of any winter sun.

It's a pleasantly different plant isn't it? Seems very tolerant of shade too, so rather useful.
