I haven't got any old family pictures to hand at the moment (I'm at work) but I'll post a few about old Hull:

City Centre Hull WWII (City Hall on the left, steps to Queen Victoria Statue on the right):

Hull Boer War Memorial, top of Jameson Street 1905:

    Victoria Pier 1909:

Can do more if anyone is interested.

I think it's real shame what Hull could have been if 95% hadn't been bombed in WWII:

    We're a tough old lot! ;)

The London Trolley Buses started to replace the trams around 1930 but were finally phased out by 1962.

As kids we always used to cheer if we saw the 'collector arms' on the top of the bus come off the overhead cables. The conductor had to get off the bus, pull out an enormous pole, with a hook on the end, from under the bus and struggle to hook it back onto the cable.

They certainly reduced air pollution in London as they were all electric. They were better than the trams as they didn't have to run on fixed rails. They still had to remain within 'collector' reach of the cables but it allowed them to swerve around obstacles such as parked or broken down vehicles.

At night you could see the sparks that were generated from the contact on the cable as the buses crossed other cables at junctions.

Shiney....although these are relatively present day pictures I thought I'd pick up on your tram theme, the trams here are used throughout the summer months. The horse trams run along Douglas Promenade and link up with the Electric Railway trams at the far end, they then travel to Ramsey in the north of the island. All the original trams have been refurbished and are still used. The only form of train travel here is by steam and runs between Port Erin and Douglas.

As you have said the 'collectors arm' has to be moved by the conductor with a long pole. :)

This is a picture of my father, approximate date late 1940's. Both he and his elder brother could play accordions and both were self taught.

          img075.jpg

My father-in-law served as a military policeman during National Service after the end of World War II. As you can see he followed on by joining the Metropolitan Police in London after his time served at the approximate age of twenty and retired from the Police Force after twenty seven years. Back Row, second from right.

Wow, Woo, you still look like you ... just love it. xx

Here is a picture of my mother and father's wedding in Glamorgan, South Wales, in 1946 with my maternal grandad from Ireland on the right and my maternal grandmother from Wales ... (and I don't know who the best man was) ...

                Mammy & Daddy\'s wedding.jpg

Both my parents were military, and Dad was awarded the OBE (he ended up a Colonel) and Mammy the MBE (she was a Staff Sergeant) ... they met at MI5 ...

And here is after Sis and I came along in 1950 as we were preparing to leave for Canada ...

Mammy, Daddy, Anne & Vicky 1950.jpg

Sadly my mother died in New York State in 1956 age 35 and my father died in Texas in 2006 age 93.

Thank you Annie. Unfortunately no, for me it would be a bit like trying to play the bagpipes, there's to much going on at once and my left hand wouldn't have co-ordination with the right. :heehee: He did pass his crafting talents on to me though. :)
