What's Buzzin' or Flying Near You Today..? MK 3..

Caught in the act, snuggled deep ....

 

seen a few wasps today. the first ones ive seen all year. and they were tiny.

 

I don't know what's 'flying around my garden' at the moment - but something 'got me' 2days ago on the back of both 'calf muscles'. It felt like a 'stabbing, sharp nettle sting' but that's one nuisance plant that I don't have - and I definitely wasn't standing close to any 'thorny/spikey things' :(.

I'm left with lots of red inflammation around the bite marks, that's hot, swollen and itchy. Applying cold compresses, bathing with 'Dettol Solution', applying bite/sting cream and dosing on antihistamines at the moment. I'll give it over the weekend, then seek medical advice if there's no improvement.

**Memo to self: in future, make sure that you wear full length trousers with closed ankles when in garden ; avoid 'cut-offs' at all costs .

I have to agree Jenny, I have never seen as many Butterflies but very few Ladybirds or Wasps?

Seen plenty of Wasps, I think they're addicted to my Fennel 'tree'. Only maybe 3 ladybirds this year however.

Can I ask a question please? Do ants eat black aphids?

 

I don't think so but they do "farm" them for the honeydew which they excrete. I've seen ants attacking ladybirds in order to protect their aphids from predation. They also get very cross when I squash the aphids on our Clematis Sieboldii

 

aah, that's it then. I keep seeing ants crawling over the aphids. Was hoping they carted them off to an underground bunker of some sort. Oh well.

 

Not exactly wildlife, but these were flying near me today.
