Will this plant need dug out? any tips?

Hi, I would like to remove this plant from my lawn. I assume it will need dug out? Any tips for this? particular depths to dig too or just any advice?

 

I don't know what it is, but it looks like its just been put there. The grass has been neatly mown all around it yet without harming the plant.

 

Yeah its been there since we moved in 2 years ago, Ive always mowed round it but now I am renovating the lawn I would like to remove it. Its an annual thing, it dies and comes back every year.

 

Is it worth keeping or is it going to plant heaven, if keeping it you will have to dig down to get all the root out, as you say it comes back every year, herbaceous perennial, if you leave any roots behind it may come back, if going to plant heaven, try some of that round up contact gel, it will kill it in a few days and all the roots as well, then you will just have to tidy the area it was growing in.

 

Plant heaven I suspect. Do you think roundup gell will work on something that big yeah?

 

Easily. Probably just a single dose for something that size. I've used RoundUp on a massive, very well established wild rose. Two doses so far and its already turning yellow.

 

All my borders are full but I will try and find somewhere for it actually. Better than killing it (and indeed putting glyphosate anywhere near the lawn.)
