I suspect chocolate does work as a pick-me-up due to caffeine.

Still a small amount of chocolate a day (including milk, but better dark), is a good source of polyphenols and anti-oxidants.

You can't underestimate the role the anti-oxidants play in keeping us healthy.. the more the better for sure.. keeps our cells healthy... pretty vital.

food such as fruit, green tea, black tea, chocolate, and some vegetables have high levels of anti-oxidants. Blueberries may well have the most anti-oxidants.

ps. Cocoa beans are pretty good to eat raw.. don't taste particularly pleasant but things that are good for you generally don't... except Mango.

If you're diabetic you need to be careful of not having too many blueberries. All berries, for diabetics, should be consumed in moderation but blueberries are particularly high in the 'baddies'.

Mangoes - I love them and have one for breakfast each morning, followed by porridge :). I sometimes (frequently) have another in the evening.
Fortunately we have an Asian wholesaler in a town near us that lets me buy them there. They're in a warehouse and sell mainly to Indian restaurants but, with a bit of persuading, will now sell to the public. The prices of fresh food vary from day to day but a box of honey mangoes (perfectly ripe) sells between £4.50 and £6.50 depending on quantity and size. :blue thumb:

How come? I thought blueberries were classed as a 'superfood'.

      Yes, they are. :blue thumb:

Diabetics need to be careful about blueberries because they are thought to increase insulin sensitivity.

So, for some diabetics they are good and for others they need to be careful of the quantitites. It depends on the type of diabetes and the severity.

That's why it's important for diabetics to attend regular diabetic clinics - they're free on the NHS. If their levels are stable and OK then they can eat most things in moderation. Having a nurse keep an eye on things and giving advice for the individual is an excellent way to stay as healthy as possible.
