The ultimate seal of approval

I've reached a major milestone in the development of my garden. Apart from my son (the 4 year old one, not the new lad), there was also me, my 10 year old nephew, and two little boys from over the road aged 3 and 4, all have a Nerf battle and general adventuring in my back garden.

The willow tunnel network was heavily utilised, as was the mound, the tree house/fort, the wobbly bridge, and the 'secret' archway between the patio and the lawn.

The only tears happened when the two lads from over the road had to go home. They'd had too much fun and didn't want to leave. My 10 year old nephew described my garden as, and I quote, "epic".

That's the ultimate seal of approval. My garden has been declared 'epic' by a 10 year old.

I had my god-daughter pop over she is only 5 ? or 4 ? one or the other

and she wanted to have a look at the back garden , she said when she came down the side of the house to my amazement, and quickly ran over to the colocasia which is even bigger , one leaf nearly as tall as her just amazed at the size of the leaf, she also pointed out my hanging baskets are soooo bigger than her mums , I did have a giggle and a smile.

My lads look at me gardening and say: "Meh!"
(I'll get my own back: even if I have to scour the garden for a caterpillar to stick on their side salad and if they complain, my retort will be: "Meh!" )

 

@"M" she is just lives across the road, she gets so excited when she sees me I have taught her to say Ciao Ciao which she remembers to say when she is going and no prompt from me, it started as a little joke but she still does it, she is just full of joy and happiness her name is Ffion which is welsh for Foxglove .

 

And such a beautiful name, @Spruce (be it Welsh or English). How cute that she says that! I bet you have awakened her gardening gene by the sounds of it: her excitement at seeing leaves as tall as she is. Their joy and happiness is very infectious, isn't it!

 

she getting really good at naming the plants . but can be a tad hands on at times , as she yanks the heads off the flowers and then just looks at me with a guilty face and then hands them to me , she was fascinated with the lavender and the smell it left on her hands as she pushed them into her older sisters face to have a smell

The greenhouse is still a no go area and that won't be happening for at least another year or two !!

 

Exactly. To me, that simple one word description was the ultimate complement. We agreed there is room for improvement. The Mound needs something long growing on it to provide extra cover and to enable you to poke a Nerf CS-35 through it while still being concealed, and a few more bolt holes are needed around the lawn. I also need to make a safe route down the side of the greenhouse and pond so that there are more options for assaulting the tree house/fort, but all that is easy really. No major rework required at this stage. If its 'Epic' now, it will be Epic+1 by next year.

That's a lovely name. I suggested to wife that if we ever get a daughter, she could be called Fiona, which I believe is Gaelic for Flower. I'm guessing that Ffion is closely linked in terms of etymology.

It sounds amazing Clue....all you're missing is a secret underground bunker/command controll center....it sounds 'Epic' to me too

 

I've been thinking about that. Its an engineering challenge that I'm still struggling over. Any subterranean affair will need to be very strong with no danger of collapse or flooding. The obvious solution to to build above ground, then turf over it, that way there's no danger of flooding, hitting mains pipes/cables, or generally getting into expensive bother, plus it means I wont have to find a place for several tonnes of rubbish subsoil. I'll just have to work out where to put it.
