Had it tonight Jenny - not that impressed - was a bit dry - although flavoursome - hopefully they will improve.

Have grown Super Marmande for years and was put off by their unruly behaviour (because it is a bush type never removed the side shoots) - so this year went for the Mountain Pride - back to Marmandes next year I think.

Lowest truss tomatoes are renowned for being "Bland", 2nd truss up should be much better!

It is? I have some in the greenhouse and I took out the sides-hoots. A mistake?

I am sure I read here you should remove them from the Marmandes - even though they are semi-determinate.

My toms are in the greenhouse but I have the door open 24 hours a day now as I only have the roof vent in the greenhouse. I will give the banana skins a try though. I always thought people added them for extra potassium for some reason.

You're right Jane, they do contain potassium, but they also give off ethylene, as does most ripening fruit, whic causes surrounding fruits to ripen.

Fruits still growing, early days, in NO hurry to get them ripening yet but getting a few ripening naturally, gardeners delight and harbinger and one I'm sworn to secrecy about......... now that's got you all thinking?

                Ok then.

Would extra sunlight help the fruits ripen too. I put up extra shading for my cucumbers and wonder if it's hindering the ripening of the tomatoes in the process.

It would help, trouble with growing Cucumbers & Toms together, they like different growing conditions.

It's heat not light that help the fruit ripen :blue thumb:

Yes. Worth adding that removing the shading will raise the daytime temperatures:)

Yes my shading is off now, the plants themselves cut out a lot of light and temperatures are back to normal during the day.
