Good point about the foliage. I've started to take off a few leaves (not many mind) in an attempt to aid airflow and to make it easier to actually get to the fruits. It's like a jungle in there!

Yes good idea Freddy, it's time to remove lower leaves to aid airflow and lessen the chance of Botyrtis.

      Hi!

Haven't posted anything in the last couple of months...
      My tomatoes yesterday.

Pácin tomatoe (very old type, got the seeds from a gene bank)
      30-40dkg/fruit, good taste.

          Hiya folks.

I just tried another of my outdoor 'Gardeners Delight', and I must say the flavour has greatly improved. Still some way off compared with 'Sungold' imo, but definitely on the list for next year. I'll probably try a few in the greenhouse, for comparison.

Gardeners Delight starts cropping earliest for me (can't remember in comparison to Sungold, maybe they are the same start date?)

Trusses large too - I think larger than Sungold, but maybe you can confirm.

Because I'm experimenting this year I'm not growing either of them !

Keep them a bit thirsty before picking them, improves the flavour :)

                  Hiya @Kristen

A bit difficult to make a direct comparison as the 'Sungold' are in the greenhouse whilst the 'Gardeners Delight' are outside. I must say that the 'Sungold' have produced really long trusses this year, and are ahead of 'Gardeners Delight' on that front. However, I usually find that toms grown outside not as productive in terms of numbers, so it may well be the case that 'Gardeners Delight' grown in the greenhouse will be a lot more productive.

                  Cheers...Freddy

Hey Freddy, how are your Rosada doing? I'm growing mine outside and am disappointed with them in terms of taste. Have you tried any yet?

So far for next year, I will definitely be doing Maskotka & Marmande again, got a notion to give some of the more unusual ones a shot too

                    Hiya John.

My 'Rosada' didn't even make it to planting. They were so spindly and weak looking, I didn't think it worth persisting. As I've said before, the flavour is very ordinary (imo) when eaten raw. It's when they are roasted/baked that the flavour really comes to life. Also worth saying that I've only ever grown them in the greenhouse.

                    Cheers...Freddy

Ah sorry Freddy I forgot you said that, now I recall the spindly plant conversation. My Rosada are still spindly/lanky things, they are still growing upwards with quite small fruit.

                      Hiya John.

I do wonder if they are particularly tender? I recall that my heater failed one night early on. I wasn't too concerned at the time as all the plants seemed ok, but it was maybe a week or so later that the 'Rosada' plants started to go awry. Just a thought...
