Brugmansias

I have just been out to water and my littlest Brug (cutting from pink Suaveolens) which has bushed out nicely, is covered in a white 'haze' like the colour has just drained from the leaves! Is it RSM?

 

Just had to show this picture...my favourite Brugmansia called Archangel. Got her from a friend in the States, and I think for a single it's just perfect.

My one and only decent brug is looking good but no flower buds. It's about 2 foot tall, leafy and vigorous), one main stalk and a smaller one, (which I'm going to whip off for a cutting) although a few yellowish leaves at the bottom. It's a Bad Schulzpruk (or something). Am I being too impatient?

 

It's actually a Brugmansia x candida 'Kurpark Bad Salzschlirf'. Who makes this stuff up?

 

Same people who gave us "Cox's Orange Pippin" for an Apple and "Pink Fir Apple" for a Spud?!!

Brugs have to grown until the fork, and then they will flower. IME growing them strongly will get them there sooner. Make sure that they never wilt from lack of water and pot-on as soon as the pot is getting root bound. Personally I pot on in stages, rather than jumping up to a monster sized pot, but others say that the monster-size jump is OK (I guess you need to get to a reasonable size before making that jump, dunno what that is - 10L perhaps? I doubt it is smaller than 5L).

Hard to over feed a Brug - they are greedy.

Other than that I don't have any magic bullets I'm afraid

Brilliant new Kristen...happy days. Lots of Brugs budding up in the garden after all that hot, hot weather. Will post when they bloom. I have never seen so many caterpillars munching my brugs before, really happy to seeing them going through their change...phew!!!!

As in bleached foliage? Check the underside for a very fine web like substance (a sure sign if RSM) or a fine red dust that when you look closely moves.
Otherwise they may just need more food, but I'm no expert on Brugs.

 

Possibly, but put your specs on Victoria, and have a very close look on the underside of the leaves, you will see webbing and tiny insects moving around, if it is.
If its really bad the webbing will be covering the growing points also.

If not it might be magnesium deficiency.

Are they more "golden" than they look in the picture? (Not got one to flowering size as yet, but I was expecting more Golden than cream??)

 

I think its one of the type that change colour as the flowers age.
Its slightly more yellow tonight, even with a slight pinkish look on the older flowers

 

Looking at Google Images there appears to be everything from White through Cream to Gold and Apricot ...

I wonder if there isn't a colour chart that could, reasonably accurately, be printed on any printer and which could then be used to, against reasonably accurately, describe the colour of things by holding it alongside for a match - like a Dulux colour chart (I know there are professional colour wheels, I was wondering if there was something cheap)

 

RHS do a colour fan , but at 25 quid!! BGI, the Brugmansia forum do one for around usd 5.50.
Got loads of buds coming, will post soon.
