Been to Helmsley Walled Garden today. I was getting a bit 'insane' due to hardly having left Redcar for a while (have wheels, must travel and all that). At the same time though, I am aware that wife is convalescing, so I wanted somewhere within easy reach and very laid back once there, so I got on interweb to see what gardens there are to visit that we haven't already been to. Found this one:

    http://www.helmsleywalledgarden.org.uk/

I always knew it was there, but never really bothered before. The logic being that if I'm going to drive to Helmsley, then the town and the castle will fill a whole day, but today we did the garden. Its a good one. And for £5.50 each you get a ticket that lasts a full year. We'll definitely be going again. I know you'll want pics, so I took a few. I'll get the off my phone after tea.

Here we go then, in no particular order.

That castle on the hill there is not part of the gardens, that's Helmsley Castle next door. Worth a visit.

Are these giant yellow flowers some sort of Rudbeckia?

We were all impressed by the size of this pumpkin/marrow thing, so I made the big lad sit next to it to show the size.

This little garden within a garden was nearly missed by us. I like nooks and crannies like this.

Another garden within a garden that we nearly missed. I liked this one best.

Great pics, Clueless. My friends who live at Stockton on Tees want me to stay with them and visit the gardens around there so I'll definitely put that one on the list!!:snork:

There is a really nice looking cafe in the greenhouse. Its quite novel, you walk past actual crops growing and then there's tables and chairs of the cafe in there too. I can't comment on the quality or value in the cafe though as we ran out of time. We were still in the garden when it technically closed, but I think the staff have learned to expect that as we had no bother getting out.

The top photo is chrysanthemum "eastern star". Just been looking at seeds for next year and fancy growing it. :)

Ah, thanks. Its off my list then unfortunately. If there's one thing I've learned over the years it is to know when to quit, and I've tried many times with many different chrysanthemums, and they just don't work for me. Never mind.

We popped into this garden last week, the borders are past their best but the fruit/veg are worth seeing.

                          The view from the town:
