British forum with a default language setting of ... English (US): why? :dunno:

And why no option to change the default to English (UK)?

This laptop annoys me occasionally, I bought it while abroad and it is "Americanised" :frown: my @ is on the 2, I have no pound sign, but do have a $.and a few other minor inconveniences.Such as the spell checker, Americans cannot spell correctly,I end up going to my online dictionary although I know I am correct. Something I never considered when buying it, I was looking at "Rams" and "Gigabytes" :heehee:

Can't see anything wrong with either: Courgette being French, and Zucchini is Italian.

Perhaps we should call them baby marrows, seeing as that's what they are.

As an aside, at Helmsley walled garden the other day, they were selling 'enormous courgettes'. I just casually pointed out that they were marrows.

Everyone knows the yanks dont talk English, so why is it called "English" US?

If they hear proper English they think you are Aussie anyway.

After the British rebels ousted the British government from the British colony in America, they quickly took steps to distance themselves from their British brethren. One of those steps was that they deliberately altered their language, writing S the wrong way round (before realising that they may as well use Z), getting rid of some silent letters from words and spelling them more phonetically, and relaxing the grammar. In fact much like my 4 year old son and his nursery classmates do it:)

Most Americans recognise and refer to us as British not English according to my son (married to an American), as they find it difficult to define between our accents across Britain. You will notice this when watching American television programmes. :)
