actually I had a couple of other pictures of them, they don't seem to load, and, unlike these straight trees, they have bigger trunks and also the small branches are painted, which give them a slightly less dramatic effect, especially against a grey background.

I think this is the location, and the image date of May 2012 would suggest that this is a fairly recent thing to have been done. I wonder if its some sort of plastic sleeving to protect the trees from the sun or something?

I wonder how much did it cost to make thm blue ;) .......I`ve noticed that there is lots going on with trees at the moment , recently my council cutted down all the trees near the river , telling peoples that they where infected , while according to local peoples there was nothing wrong with them , then they published a new view of the town with different trees just to make the town look more modern , also a sculptor was employed to work in the local woods to involve peoples to go in the local woods .......

        hummmmmm

(Konstantin Dimpoulos, Australian artist and creator of the Blue Trees said: )

Good to see they used a local artist.;):heehee:
Personally I'd lock him up in The Tower
        and throw away the key.

It is a very weird thing to do but it does catch your eye & make you look at the trees, but I would have thought it could have at least been an English bloke.. Sadly not.. Makes you wonder in this country sometimes... :paladin:

I know we have our own bunch odd people who call themselves artists, but painting the trunk and a few lower branches of a tree is hardly art.

It makes you look at the trees, yes, but for the wrong reasons.
It makes them appear artificial, and as such totally removable when they want a new colour scheme.
I hope this moron was not paid any money.

I certainly hope he wasn't paid either but somehow I have my doubts........
Well will it wash off with the rain or will it be left to just fade away & look a mess after a while.. Why blue for heavens sake at least if it was white it wouldn't look so awful. but then that comes down to why agree to such a stupid idea in the first place.. Surely they could have come up with something better for the celebrations....:gaah:

I've got mixed feelings about this one (on both the artist being paid - like he'd do it for free? - and the "artistic" license of it all).

On the one hand, paint white ... people would mistake the for a silver birch (if they were even that tree knowledgeable) - paint them blue ... grabs the attention, causes a stir, makes people notice/think/talk.

Painting trunks does appear to serve some purpose (I've learned since reading this thread), whether one colour is better than another is clearly open to interpretation! (Why not red, white and blue? :dunno: After all, if you're going to *go* for it ... do it in style ;) )

Well whatever it has certainly got us talking about it whether we like it or not... ;) :heehee:

When I went to school, there was an entire class for art spanning every term for the whole 11 years. I was never any good at art, but then nobody ever told me that art was about taking a pot of paint and a brush and painting something a solid colour. I used to help my dad do that as far back as I can remember. Its just not art. Or if it is art, then the fence in my garden is a work of art because I painted that. I once got paid a fiver for a piece of art I did when I was about 15 and was trying to save up for a new pushbike. My grandad commissioned me to paint the window frame in his bathroom. Getting people to look at something and talk about it doesn't make it art, or if it does, then I did another masterpiece a couple of years ago when I was sending a car to the scrapyard. It had died on my front lawn (I'd put there when trying to save it, but sadly it sort of exploded a bit while putting it there, so it was never going to go again). It wouldn't quite fit out of the driveway at the angle it was at when being winched, so I took the sledgehammer and belted it in to give us the extra inch we needed to get it past the wall. Lots of people were looking and talking about it, so maybe it was art after all.

Does it not harm the tree to paint it all (except the leaves)? I'd have thought it would cause bother for any buds that are trying to become new shoots.
