A long time friend and like me a radio ham is comms manager on the polar research ship James Clark Ross. The ship has been docked in Dundee for the weekend after returning from a science cruise in artic waters and my pal Mike invited Mrs W and I for a tour of the ship.
We found it a fantastic experience and were very impressed with the technology and the explanations of the science being undertaken. The beer in the bar at the end of our three hour tour was pretty good too!
I'd never been on JCR, though was once on RRS Bransfield, and it was particularly nice to see Mike's radio shack as we usually manage a few radio contacts while the ship is in arctic antarctic waters.
Photos are ones I did for Mrs W Facebook page. (spot the typo!!)

      A few more pics
It was indeed Ziggy. We toured stem to stern and top to bottom. The technology is simply unbelievable!! JCR is due to cross to Denmark tomorrow to have one of the bits of tech kit replaced - it will involve 3km of cabling and lots of decking being taken up to run the cables. The ship then come back to the UK before setting off to antarctica to do some science during the summer down there.

      Blimey Dave, 3km? Wow.
