Are you going to get some coats of timber treatment on that greenhouse before the trough fills full of water and becomes impossible to move?

      Some thoughts:

      * How will you prevent the water from going stagnant?
      * How will you stop it filling with algae?
      * How will you get the water out? Will you use some form of pump, or simply dunk the water can in?

What about this for a plan (I'd love to claim it as my idea but I think its an established but lesser known trick). Set it up with fish in it, and everything fish will need. The fish will consume mosquito larvae and some types of algae, but will need their own stuff, like oxygenating plants, plants that will mop up some nutrients, and plants that will provide a place for the fish to hide. The fish will poo and wee in the water filling it with nitrates and other chemicals that are in effect plant food. Then when you water your greenhouse plants with the water from the trough, you will in effect be feeding the plants at the same time.

I know this is an established trick, but I don't know the name of this technique/setup. I also don't know how people who do this maintain the water level in the trough to keep the fish and their plants alive and safe. Might be worth a bit of research if you like the idea though.

I've had 2 pressure treated softwood greenhouses and it was recommended that I apply additional coating(s) to prevent UV light from turning the timber grey and denatured (as the preservatives only protect against rot and insect attack). Did your supplier not make any recommendations to apply anything to protect the timber against degradation from sunlight?

My business is carrying large amounts of water about,my house is on a water metre, every time I need water I shall fill it up with my pump from one of my vehicles.i have given algae some thought and since that photo a hour ago I've covered most of the trough,I have a pond liner covering some hard wood I bought once this wood is used I shall use it to cover the trough properly hoping that will cut out the algae ?
The wife and I discussed how to get the water out and we are going to scoop it out and watering can will fit in and I would just hold it down I think it will be a lot quicker than fill from a butt?
The reason I used a trough is because its lower than the wall of the green house.
Having just received a water bill for over £500 butts and troughs are going up every where ha ha.

I think I replied via conversation.did you get my message?
Thanks for your concern but I feel the greenhouse will out live me but if I decided to treat the green house I shall,my decking is like new after 12 years and I know how wood treatment works. If I feel it needs treating in a few years I shall treat it whether the supplier says to or not but thanks for being concerned.
