Sorry Snorky, but it sounds like it could be blight.

It sounds more like Grey Mould (Botrytis) to me. It's helped by cooler humid conditions. It's nigh on impossible to stop once it gets into your greenhouse, I've got a few spots of it in mine. The best thing to do is to cut off all diseased parts. Then remove lower leaves up to the first or second truss, this will help air circulation. You need to keep your vents open during the day and if it's warm enough keep them open at night too.

It's worse if you really pack your plants close together, also be careful watering, do not splash the leaves or stem. You're trying to keep humidity down in the ghouse :blue thumb:

I think you've got it spot on-I've had a lot of condensation in the greenhouse-and have left the door and vent open over night. I think i had been overwatering too. All my plants had grown massively and the greenhouse was so full-had to really chop everything back to even get in there. The plants were just gigantic when i compared the plants to my mum and grandmas plants!

So far its only affected the tomatoes-ive got some really good bell peppers starting-but no signs of mould...do you think it could move on to the peppers?! Wondering whether to sacrifice the tomatoes to save the peppers....

It will move onto the peppers if you do nothing. Personally I wouldn't sacrifice tomato plants for peppers but it's up to you what is more important. If you are that worried you can strip quite a lot of leaf off tomatoes, obviously that will affect yield but better than losing everything. Or take out every other plant so as to increase air flow.

and leave the trusses of fruit alone, they will still ripen :blue thumb:

Another little thing that will help keep humidity down is to water in the mornings Snorky, rather than at night.

Thanks-will do that in future too. Left the greenhouse all open as its mild out there now. Taken a couple of the tomato plants out and given them more space-none of the leaves are touching the glass/plastic now. Had a few green tomatoes off but kept them on the vine...maybe they will ripen on the conservatory windowsill with a bit of luck. I think next year i will not try to grow so many!

Isn't it great though Snorky? The learning that comes from growing and trying to harmonise with Mother Nature,

I say that to myself every year but don't follow my own advice :rolleyespink: It's too tempting to pack in one or two extras :)

My tomatoes are cropping well this year. These are 'Tamina' 'Red Zebra' and 'Golden Pearl'.

                  'Tamina'........large fruit and absolutely tasteless!

'Golden Pearl' (cherry)......I grow these every year and they never fail me. I've already finished one truss but they are still producing well. Sweet with a mild flavour.

No close up of the 'Red Zebra' unfortunately but they are nothing to right home about. Tough skins and next to no flavour.

                    Hiya chums.

                    Just came across this one....

                    'Country Taste'

                    PICT0014 (1280x960).jpg

                    PICT0015 (1280x960).jpg

                    PICT0016 (1280x960).jpg
Funny thing, it looks a lot bigger in the flesh. I thought I'd weigh it, and it came in at 444g, or 15.7 oz.

                    Cheers...Freddy
