You may or may not realise, but I've never really been a fan of roses. Too high maintenance I thought, and to prickly.

I'll be posting up a pic later of one that has nearly changed my mind. Last year (or was it the year before, I lose track), while clearing a patch of garden for the new patio, I had to dig out a rose bush that was already there. As I don't care for roses, I wasn't careful. I simply got the pick axe in there and smashed the roots so I could tear it out. Then I felt guilty. It was a perfectly rose, and someone had in the past chosen to plant it there, so I dug a hole at the far end of the garden, right out of the way, and just shoved it in. Not caring enough to do the job properly, but caring enough to let it at least have some chance instead of no chance. I'm so glad I did. Its been blooming away now for weeks, with great clusters of deep pink blooms. It hasn't made me rush out to build a rose garden, but its certainly changed my previous total disinterest in roses.

Mine are looking very sorry for themselves at the moment Woo. Rain and very little sunshine and heat. Although a good summer here it's been a short one after the late snow, it's also felt like Autumn over the last couple of weeks.

I agree with all clueless says, but some of the pictures, like the one above, tempt me.

All quiet on the Rose front here ,after the initial burst of blooms they seem to be taking their time waking up but they are doing albeit slowly:dbgrtmb:.....i've had a no show from 'Heritage' at all this year......scratch that just been and checked i see a little bud:dancy:...... and the only roses with black spot are the ones without the FYM mulch!!!!...

Ebb tide is blooming though with plenty of buds waiting in the wings:dbgrtmb:

Here's the rose I mentioned earlier that threatens to make me a rose convert.

Good morning Clueless, a beautiful rose, but your rose proves that they don't need high maintenance by its very existence and the thorns are just there to protect the flowers ;)
A lifetimes pleasure for a small price,
I just think that it is the folk who don.t have any roses that are the ones who are missing out ,but each to their own my friend,If I could have only one flower in my garden it would be a rose, they are part of our history and heritage and there's one for every occasion :)

Loli.......Your Ebb Tide looks lovely. Mine has put on a pathetic performance, if it doesn't improve next year (it's second year) it's getting it's marching orders!

Clueless.......That is a pretty rose you have, is it perfumed?

Can't say I've noticed any scent off it, but then to be honest I'm rarely anywhere near it. Its in the part of the garden that I've only recently started to reclaim.
