potato compost

    i used a mixture of bagged compost and soil to grow potatoes in a tub. i've now taken the potatoes out. can i use the compost for flower bulbs and tubers?

    I believe it is not recommended as if you have any blight it will just spread it. not really sure somebody else may say differently.:biggrin:

    By tubers I presume you mean flowering plants next season, such as Begonias? (and NOT Potato tubers :) )

    Is so then yes, it will be fine. You'll need to add some fertiliser though as the Spuds will have taken all they wanted. I use the hundreds-and-thousands slow release (not ideal to use that over winter, so better to apply that in the spring), but you could use a regular liquid feed.

    Blight doesn't store in the soil, only in tubers (so it is a problem when the odd tuber is missed during harvest, and then sprouts AND you don't rogue it out next Spring as if infected it can then pass on Blight to all the surrounding plots :( )
