As I gazed from the bedroom window this morning, this greeted me on the patio :gaah:. Pretty sure it's fox poo but why oh why do it there? We do not put out food for him so it's not a thank you card. Is it out of spite then?
Fortunately, as my OH walks a dog on a Thursday, there's always dog poo bags in his walking jacket pocket and he's a skilled master poo bag user and it was disposed of in our local dog waste bin down the road.
While on this subject, Sprocket, the dog he walks, is a little beggar for rolling in it and has to be severely spoken to, if you can get there in time. Why (he's a Springer/Cocker) does he want to do it? I don't think ALL dogs want to roll in poo do they,

sorry if I've offended some - but I did give a hint in the title....

Dogs often like to roll in stinky things. It was always decomposing seaweed or dead seagulls with our dogs, except for one that liked to roll in poo.

As disgusting as it is, there is logic to it. A dog is descended from the wolf. It is a predator. The trouble is that dogs smell like dogs. If you're a deer or an elk, happily grazing away and you suddenly smell dogs, you know its probably time to leg it. If you're a deer or an elk and you suddenly smell decomposing seaweed or a rotten seagull, you might think, 'oh, that's odd... never mind, must continue munching this lovely grass'. Dogs instinctively know this, and it gives them a slight advantage. Its like stinky camouflage. The trouble is domestic dogs have had some of their hunting prowess bred out of them. The basic instinct is still there but the mastery of the art isn't, so they fail to see the flaw in the logic that exists when trying to disguise their own smell by using the smell of another predator's poo.

I am not sure if this is fox poo as I all the fox poo I have ever found is tapered at the end and will often be a bit furry at the end like it has animal fur in it.Could it be a badger that has come visiting?

Our Tina used to love rolling in Badger poo plus the dead pike at our local country park that the fisherman would leave lying on the grass after they had caught them while fishing and had dispatched them because they eat the young ducklings etc.I have lost count the ammount of times we used to have to wash her practically in disinfectant especially round her kneck and on her collar as she so loved rolling in the pongy fish and would come back to us covered in fish scales and rotting flesh:eeew:

I tend to agree with Kandy , Jenny & think badger rather than fox pooh from the "shape" ;) I have 2 Jacks & they love to roll in the stinkiest things they can find...!!! I have found that if it is smelly put a squirt of tomato ketchup in with the shampoo & lather all up together.. It neutralizes the smell.. ;) :blue thumb:
