Tomato Seed swap 2013

Plus 'currant' tomatoes. Seeds from tomatoes that came from a megabloom might have been cross-pollinated due the distorted nature of the flower (always a good idea to also let a normal flower develop and also save some seeds from just in case).

@Jenny namaste I've grown seeds saved from F1 Sungolds for many years and got not quite as sweet cherry toms with a few red ones and some slighter larger than normal but still good for eating and great for roasting to make sauce. I'd keep using these until I found a packet at a boot sale for 20p then save some fresh ones. I didn't bother sowing any this year as I got loads of packets from T&M when they were 20p/pkt.

 

How many seeds in a T & M packet are there ? Could you spare a packet for us to share in a TSS? I would only want 2 seeds for instance,

Well I`m interested.

 

The packet won't be enormous or heavy if we "pack light", so we all know the initial ferment procedure 'cos Zigs put up a vid for us all. It can wait until the end of harvest - say late November and we are all going to resist sowing too early aren't we?
And the list won't be as long as pam's standard flower seed list I don't think.
Think I may be talking myself into a job....

Does this mean that there will be no tomato seeds in the main seed swap parcel or will people still be adding toms to that list too?

As someone who's never grown toms before, I can't join the tomato seed swap parcel as I've nothing to swap. I was hoping to swap a couple of seeds from the main parcel for flower seeds as I'd like to give tomato growing a whirl next year.

 

@Jenny Yes, think I've got something like 50 or so packets left.

 

I envisaged this as swopping of specific seeds agreed beforehand, separate to the other mixed contents parcel style swop, and not preventing tomato seeds from also being part of the parcel swop.

If the tomato seed swop is in the form of a parcel doing the round, them I'm out.

 

No Fern there will still be tomatoes in the seed swap, these are 2 different parcels, there are loads of tomato seeds in there already.

 

Hiya folks

I won't be bothering to try to save any seed. I think I have quite a few packs (some of which are already opened) of seed that I'm quite happy to put in the 'pot'. These are obviously this years seed (packed late last year) but they should be fine for sowing next spring. I will retain what I need for next year, and donate the rest. Is that ok?

 

I've already decided i aren't going to grow as many different varieties next year...this year was a trial...like Freddy i also have enough seed from this year but if anyone should happen fancy any i have i'd be happy to save and send some

 

I've sown 5 year old tomato seeds with good germination, but they seemed slower to show. The trick for getting very old seeds to germinate is soaking them in dilute Miracle Gro.

 

I'm out, I have what I wan't for next year bar one or two.

You should have started this thread a while back Jenny, my contacts to the "States" are over there and asked if I needed anything brought back! :(

I'm more than happy to contribute seed though.
