Pole/extendable hedge trimmer

There are a couple of things I don't like with my Nordstrom (and I think applies to all pole trimmers) .

1 - the weight, they are heavy and it does half make my arms ache using it for a day. I like to hold it rather than take it's weight on the strap, maybe my technique is wrong thinking about it.

2 - it only works on the pole so you can't take it off and use it as a hand held (For instance some of my hedges are over 4 ft wide and it won't cut all the way across at the top from ground level). If all your hedges are less than 3ft width it should be OK - provided you can access them from both sides.

 

A batter might look out of place because everyone in our village has beech hedges cut straight. Really the hedges shouldn't be that thick, on my side there is a wire fence so I always trim back to that, on the neighbour's side it has gradually got wider and wider because they don't have anything to guide them. Beech can take a serious trim, back to no leaves, they take a year to recover but that's what mine needs.

 

Yes I really should get a safer ladder like one of those - being on a hillside makes it even more wobbly. A family friend recently fell off his ladder cleaning gutters, broken hips take a long time to heal when you get old.

Hi KGGS, it's OK for me as a amateur gardener, mainly I use mine once a month for strimming and once a year for the hedge trimmer. I've never used the brush cutter attachment and only used the chainsaw/pruner attachment once.

Personally I would not recommend them for professional use. Mainly because of the time it takes to swap the tools over. It should only take 5 minutes but it's always much longer for me.

 

Update on my Nordstrom combi tool, the pull start mechanism jammed up. So I took it off and the plastic lugs inside have worn out. Mine is now over 2 years old and out of warranty, so I bought a replacement part from the original ebay seller for £12. It arrived yesterday and was easy to fit and now it's starting properly again. I think it should last longer than 2 years but I have been using the chainsaw attachment a lot.

 

Think it reflects the cost of the kit though John. Mine's fine and dandy incidentally lol

 

Good morning all my friends Now look gardening is supposed to be a therapeutic and a relaxing pursuit , and put one at one with nature now when I was 2nd head gardener at the Big house it was just shears and and a barrow no matter what the dimensions of the hedge wasalright it took us 3 weeks to cut,the head gardener said it would teach us patience and pride when the frequent visitors told him what a marvelous job he had done he insisted we call him mister while he called us what he liked The only power tools we had were Secateurs powered by hand
