Look or the Big dipper in the NW sky and Saturn's the second down of the big three. It's a golden yellow in colour and you will be able to see the rings with a modest telescope - subject to clear skies of course.
    Happy star gazing everyone,
    Jenny

Thanks Jenny....I'll go outside and have a look later. Hopefully it will be clear up there. Fingers crossed!

Its blinking low in the sky :(

It will move from Virgo to Libra next Summer ... still very low in the sky :(

I was hoping to get a view with my new 12 inch telescope. Sadly from my position it is too low down and behind a house :-(

We've got Comet Ison to look forward to in November and Jupiter will be at opposition and at its brightest in January.

That low in the sky even without trying to see through a house :) the viewing wouldn't be very grand ... too much atmosphere in the way :(

Ison is turning into a damp squib, and even if it is amazingly bright it will be too close to the sun to view ... lets hope it blows up in clear view or somesuch :)

Jupiter in January sounds like a much better target :blue thumb:

The verdict is still open on Ison. It's not yet brightened as much as expected, but should still be a worthwhile sight. Although sadly, it too will be low down when at its best.

A few years decade ago, when Saturn was higher in the sky, folk who looked at it through my scope thought I had put a transparency in the scope!

Summer viewing of the planets much harder being as the elliptic is so much lower in the sky :( GC outing to Australia perhaps? :heehee:
