        Reminds me of the local American families we saw in Florida at the "eat all you can" breakfast restaurants, they all seemed to need sticks or crutches to walk and struggled to squeeze themselves into the seats, but they were brilliant at balancing huge platefuls of pancakes, years of practise we thought :eeew:

          Phil's Fantastic. They're non-F1, so OK for seed saving plus good for eating.

            In the tasting scheme of things Scrungee, is the taste worth the effort? I have very limited space for growing things,

            As I have virtually unlimited space for growing tomatoes I'll grow lots of varieties and keep trying new ones, but if I only grew one beefsteak tomato it would be this one, although that might just be my personal taste as there's nothing particularly amazing about it, it's just a nice reliable juicy tomatoey tomato. (plus they regularly produce scary looking, deformed fruits)

              In an earlier post I said I thought that 'Country Taste' had a better flavour than 'Super Marmande'. As time has gone on, I've changed my mind. The 'Super Marmande' have started to develop and are now better on the flavour front, imo:)

                  As mentioned above, Ferline are my worst performing tomato, but in fact all my cordon tomatoes this year aren't doing very well ranging from high first trusses, not much fruit to extremely slow to ripen, but all my bush tomatoes (Red Alert, Brasero & Koralik) are absolutely laden with ripe fruit. Never had anything like it happen before.

                    @pamsdish we shall have a new thread soon and rate our tomatoes according to taste and yield. I would have started one sooner but I'm still waiting for the first Amish Paste and Ferline to ripen, I can't believe how late some of my varieties have been this year :scratch:

                    Same thing here with the two bush varieties I've grown; Red Robin & Little Sun have been exceptionally prolific and ripened very early. My Gardeners Delight cordon first ripened in early July then I've had next to nothing off it, plenty of green fruit but few ripening. Others have done OK so it's been another 'funny' season.

                      A decent summer and what looks like a decent crop? I'll be definitely growing Gardeners Delight and Harbinger next year, GD always good and Harbinger has exceeded my expectations this year, given a good summer, can't go far wrong with it, great in cheese and tomato sarnies, even better if toasties!

                        Amersh Paste - very few have ripened as yet
                        Beams Yellow Pearl - has cropped regularly
                        Black Cherry - very few have ripened as yet
                        Black Krim - not quite ripe. One plant has huge fruit, compared to the other
                        Floridity - has cropped regularly
                        Golden Sunrise - has cropped regularly
                        New Girl - has cropped regularly
                        Pink Brandy Wine - not even nearly ripe :(
                        Rosada - very few have ripened as yet
                        Sungeller - has cropped regularly
