    I had a plan for a bug box, utilising a poly box (lovingly called: A Coffin!), but, that is now on hold as a cold frame project. However, inspired by this thread, I am now making: a hedgehog den! :dbgrtmb: This will consist of a thick walled cardboard box, the contents of my paper shredder, a bit of straw, some holes and ... the right situ!

    Me wants a hedgepig! :paladin:

      good on you @"M" :dbgrtmb: fingers crossed the next hedgehog to pass your way moves straight in:thumbsup:

      we've just finished one for our boy last week, we built a wooden box in the corner of the shed & then cut a small hole in the shed wall so he can access the box from outside...it'd be great for him come the winter, a lot warmer than outside :thumbsup: i've filled it with straw/hay & leaves & am now feeding him near it so hopefully he'll find it & move right in...we'll have to wait & see :dbgrtmb:

      you got "hedgehog Houses" for your trio @ARMANDII ?:)

        I use medium sized plastic storage boxes with a large section of one side cut out, honeybunny, I turn them upside down and hide them at the back of the borders. I know from experience that the Hedgehogs also like using my Compost Heap to hibernate during the Winter by digging a tunnel into the base where the soft black stuff is and then making a chamber to snuggle down in. That's why I always leave disturbing the Compost Heap until around May.:snork:

            Hi Jenny, well, I wouldn't even think of keeping them in the garden if I thought there wasn't enough natural food in the garden to keep them happy. I also supplement their food with Dog food laid on a saucer on the patio at night time, but otherwise I leave them to their own devices. I couldn't resist having the third Hedgehog as it was only a couple of days before that I saw 2 dead Hedgehogs lying beside the road on the A56 and this one was walking across the road without a care in the world oblivious to any dangers.:snork:

              I always consider the sharing of personal information to be a "private" affair - unless the person imparting their personal knowledge chooses to make it public.

              I know times are difficult for many walks of life right now and garnering extra hours can be most challenging - even in your 'employment' ;) But, be fair, Our Mandy, nature photographers are always in demand :)

                Agreed:thumbsup::snork:

                Extra hours is something I do not want, "M":nonofinger::snork: Besides I'm on contract with a bonus if all goes well so any extra hours I do I won't get paid any more for. I need my spare time to fish, try to keep the garden running, do a bit of photography and, of course spend some time on GC.
                I did manage to see all three Hedgehogs yesterday by chance when sitting by the pond in the early evening after visiting the RSPB Nature Reserve at Conway. One was drinking at the shallow end of the pond and the other two were trotting down the central path, it must be all this talking about them making them come out into the open:heehee: Anyway, I've found time to experiment with the camera and taking some more macro pics with reasonable success. If we get the patter of tiny feet next year I'll let everyone know.:snork:

                    It is mating season and this big guy decided to pay my son a visit and browse on his property. My granddaughter's school bus driver took a detour so the kids could see him. The EnCon guys came to chase him back into the woods and he left but I think he was more annoyed than intimidated.

                        It is hard to imagine how BIG they are until you actually see one. They look awkward walking but they sure get to where they want to go.

                        They certainly are due a lot of respect if you meet one, Hydro!!!! I guess they're more at home in the Wilds than Humans are, even if they do seem a bit awkward in movement, and haven't survived for thousands of years without being a survivor!!:snork:
