My nice new considerate neighbours have erected a satellite dish right up against my fence. I have told them twice that I don't like it but they are renting so really couldn't give a monkeys. Also it is still in their garden so there isn't a lot I can do! However, I was wondering if there was any one out there who could give me some advice or have any ideas as to how I could disguise it? Any shrub or trellis ideas? It's in quite an awkward spot and i'm struggling to come up with any ideas! I worked sooo hard on my garden and it is so frustrating! Why can't people be just a little bit considerate?

I will try an attach a photo.. I will be so grateful for some ideas.

    Welcome to GC, Katharine :sign0016:

Hmm, difficult to envisage: any chance of a photograph?

You say it is an "awkward" spot? Do you mean awkward to access, or awkward conditions for planting? :dunno:

I think satellite dishes need to face a certain way, which can restrict where they can be placed. It is really unfortunate that your neighbours appear unwilling to reconsider it's position but, where they is a will, there is a way and I'm sure some of our GC members will come up with some inspiring ideas for disguising the "view".

Do you think that if I put a trellis up on the fence it will ruin their signal?

Trellis on its own probably won't, that's why I suggested the anti radar camouflage net.

I'm suprised they can get a signal anyway...doesn't look high enough or have a clear enough range to me.....

It could be a radio telescope.

A typical one here is 1.35m ... but they are mounted on rooftops or sides of houses.

After their response to your polite request ... are you bothered if it did? :heehee:

To my minds eye, it isn't anywhere near as awful as I'd imagined. But yes, you could either put the trellis up with either an evergreen climber or a seasonal climber (depending on just how "in yer face" it is during winter months. So, maybe a clematis armandii (evergreen), or an ivy (if you dare), or a seasonally attractive climber (passion flower? clematis?).

Personally, I'd be going the flowering shrub route mainly because I think that would give a denser coverage.

Glyphosate won't work, so I suggest a cold glass of wine, a comfy seat, a gallon of petrol and a match. :-)

Assuming you are in the UK, that dish looks like a motorised one that is generally used for receiving foreign channels; anyway, looking at its position, it is aligned away from the fence and is so close to the fence that it would be very, very unlikely to ever move to pick up a signal where the fence would be in the way, so erecting a trellis on your side would have no effect on their signal. :blue thumb:
