A TRIP TO CONWAY RSPB NATURE RESERVE AND TOWN

    I drove to Conway on Thursday to recce the RSPB Nature Reserve which is situated on the Conway Estuary within sight of the Castle. It runs for more than 2 miles and changes as the tides come in and out. I believe it's better when the tide is in as it forces the Waders and other birds nearer to the several Hides around the Reserve. It's well run and they've even built the walls of a large viewing building out of mud and straw.......looks good. There's lots of paths leading off in different directions which can become boarded walkways through banks of reeds. There's a lot of insect life there too so I think there's some thing for everyone. Having said that I met some guys who were Volunteers for the RSPB, at a different site, who were also photographers and they weren't impressed by the RSPB policy of keeping the Hides and Observations point too far away for great pics.

      Most especially adoring the shot of the dragonfly!! Such fast creatures and the master of the arts of aerodynamics ... I've tried my utmost to get a shot of them in flight and failed miserably: that is stunning! (to say the very least! )

      As always Our Mandy, aye: great captures/contrasts/perspectives/colours/visions! But, my most favourite, for it's sheer audacity, has to be the dragonfly! Spot on! :thumbsup:

        Well, I've got to be honest, [drat it!!:heehee:], as that pic was taken ad hoc with completely the wrong lens as I had just been taking long shots with the 500mm lens only to be caught out by the Dragon Fly wandering past. So I took the pic with the long lens and hoped for the best!!:hate-shocked:

                I thought (in my ignorance/limited experience) that September was just erring on the side of being too late? :scratch: Happy to be corrected though.

                However, *last* Saturday still fell in the month of August, my understanding being June/July being the optimum date, but with this year everything being put back a month or so, August would be acceptable :heehee:

                Mind you, it would not surprise me, in the slightest, if nature bent her rules a tad for our Jen-Jen, simply so she could have samphire when the fancy came upon her! (Especially if the smell of fish made her nose twitch a bit :heehee: )

                  Excellent series of pics, the boat shots are fantastic as well as the dragonfly:dbgrtmb:. The wader in the pic above it is either a Common or Green Sandpiper, difficult to tell. :smile:
