The common name of B.elegans is "Coral Drops" which is rather apt I think.

Thats beautiful redstar is it a Kirengeshoma Palmata? I fell in love with that after seeing it on the Plantworld website but unfortunately they'd sold out of seed,you've reminded me to check if they have any in this year thought it would grow well in our small wooded area .

Definitely looks like Kirengeshoma to me as I have it and it's just started flowering now. Wouldn't have thought my plants up here in Scotland would be flowering at the same time as in Chester county! You are correct that it does fine in a fairly shady spot here and I'd have thought it would be ok in a woodland setting. Will see if I can get any seed for you Simbad but fear we will have frost before the seed is mature enough.

Yes it is a Kirengeshoma palmata (Yellow wax-bells) I actually have two of them. They are huge. About up to my shoulders and nice and wide at the top. Both are off centered in my garden with the mock orange in the center. I would say they have been there about 15 years and still going strong. In the dead of winter they die down to a hard crusty circle on the ground you'd think they are dead, but then mid-spring you suddenly see this growth emerging and boom before you know it they are up and high with their beautiful maple leaves on it. They start to bud until about early August. Blooming time is long, starts mid August to about mid September. Medium sun.
