It's a hormone weedkiller, it causes the weeds to grow so fast they become all contorted and literally kill themselves in the process :blue thumb:

Have to say, thought I've always thought of myself as a keen amateur gardener, I've done quite a bit of reading on the internet this year and decided to improve my knowledge (and thereafter my lawn). I just love lush green grass, I intend mine to go like the avatar ideally (yeah, right).

My lawn was quite neglected until this year, it's surprising how much I either WASN'T doing, or wasn't doing RIGHT. I had previously used 'weed and feed' products but then realised that the best thing to do is to weed using a systemic weed killer, then feed seperately. So the first thing I did was attack the weeds with Verdone Extra liquid concentrate weedkiller - WOW. That stuff is excellent, really works quickly and has done a superb job. I bought a 1 litre bottle and it will probably last a good few years as it's only one application per year.

I then decided to get another watering can, one I use solely for weeding, the other is for feeding (Scotts Miracle Gro) the turquoise crystalline soluble stuff. Thumbs up for Verdone Extra and the thread you started.

I think that "Weed and Feed" is good for lawns that are heavily infested ... but other than that I think it is expensive - treating the whole lawn when you may only have a few weeds here & there.

Note that, in Spring, you should Feed first, get the weeds growing well and then Kill with your selective weedkiller. You'll get a better kill if the weeds are growing strongly.

You may also find that you have some weeds that are resistant to Verdone (I do ...) so you might want to alternate with something else (I use Vitax as my alternate)

I use a sprayer, because I get more even coverage on the leaves and less wasted for run off ... but there is the risk of spray drift, so a) I use quite a coarse spray and b) I do it on still days only.

Thanks Kristen, great advice and one of the reasons why I joined this forum. I'll alter my annual lawn care plan to suit (it's a bit of a work in progress) Much appreciated.

Can I mix Verdone with a liquid lawn feed and kill 2 birds with 1 stone?
