Ornamental Grass and Palm Trees?

Hi

i have a space that's over 10 meters on my right hand side border between two palm trees. Currently ive just layered down bark to improve the clay soil and stop weeds growing. what do you think would be a good idea to plant there? On the other hand side i already have my perennials ect and in the front i have a small vegetable/ herb patch ( all a work in progress and still developing)

I was thinking of placing some ornamental grass between the two which will hopefully be low maintenance? apart form a trim i suppose .Do you think this will be a good idea ? Im sorry i cant currently post a picture and haven't been able to find out what species the palm is

any advice is appreciated

Good idea! Saw a garden recently planted with palms and Miscanthus, Stipa tenuissima, Pennisetum villosum and Festuca 'Elijah Blue'. It was stunning, very structural.

 

If the grass is happy they can be invasive. I put Stippa in a couple of houses ago and spent half my life getting shot of it!

I've just rid an area of Bamboo that has a Trachy and Cordyline in - I've decided to fill it in with Digitalis species from the Mediterranean, Turkey and Canary Islands. I'm hoping that they will fit in with the Trachy and Cordyline. There are a number of them on this page.

 

Hi NG , I just bought these two ornamental grasses from Asda yesterday for £3 each , they had a couple of other varieties as well
Miscanthus sinensis Strictus ( Porcupine grass )
Miscanthus sinensis Morning light
As usual not too sure where to plant them ! How do grasses perform in light shade ? This area does not get sun from October to April .

 

I am going to suggest a bamboo.
One of the Fargesia. This is a clumping, non-invasive genus, that doesn't get out of control.
And it will complement the tropical look of the Palms.

Fargesia scabrida is a fantastic, fairly new introduction. Might be a bit difficult to track down, but well with it imo.
