    Kidney bean is an alternative name for most varieties of French bean, these can be dwarf or climbing types and almost all would be OK in the UK or Ireland. They are frost sensitive so should be grown outside from end May or early June in a warm situation.

    Sowed my climbing french beans on 16th May in loo rolls on kitchen windowsill on 16th May and planted out 10 days later protected with plastic lemonade bottle 'cloches'.

    If you don;t want to start them early then wait until the ground has warmed after the frosts and sow direct in the ground a couple of inches deep
