Need help identifying this guy. The leaves are broad and a deep green during the height of summer. It produces some small pink flowers. I have two or three batches of these around the garden and the photo shows the biggest batch.

    :) Japanese Anemone.
A useful herbaceous perennial, gives a great show this time of year.
They will spread so keep an eye out and keep them under control, they look great in a large clump.......I prefer the white.

I love them, and many years gave a clump to my parents. In their rich soil, it has become a weed, so definitely keep it in check!

        Anemone x hybrida.
        It is lovely.
BUT can be an invasive thug.
We once had to dig every plant out of an island bed to remove the autumn flowering Japanese Anemone that was smothering/engulfing the smaller precious plants.

I am still trying to remove some from a bed, after 4 years of putting weed killer on every leaf that shows......and still it comes up.
I removed the soil to a depth of 4 feet in one infested bed, to make a sand bed for very special alpines. So none of the original soil went back. Guess what appeared?

I'm with Palustris - an absolute weed!
When I moved here the garden was riddled with them. Got one bed left to tackle, but I still get the odd shoot pop up where I have taken them on. Dig as much out as you can and then keep an eye out for any shoots - take them out on sight.

Had the white form - seems the easier one to eradicate.

Anemone nemorosa... wood anemone are very cute, spring flowering, low growing... then they disappear in the summer. To reappear next spring.

Anemone x hybrida .. white and pink forms, flower now in the autumn, are tall and are invasive!

Silver surfer....... congratulations! I've just noticed your new location, I'm so jealous, beautiful Scotland! I hope the move went without hitches and you're settling into your new home well. :)

                    Hi Sheal,
                    Thank you.
Move suddenly happened in such a rush.
Didn't even have a chance to dig up a few snowdrops from old home.
No garden here ...just weedy green stuff that needs mowing occasionally.
That is how it will stay. Maybe just a few snowdrops and Cyclamen coum that look after themselves.

                    We are loving it here.
                    It is just stunningly beautiful.
We are in a small town with extremely fertile agricultural land all round the area.
Fascinating to see the colours changing.
It is a flatish old glacial floor
Huge skies, rivers, Lochans, trees. Mountains to the North.
Beautiful gardens to visit...Branklyn, Cluny, Glendoick, Cambo etc
                    Castles everywhere.
Interesting wild life... deer, hares, Osprey.... even beavers locally.
It is wonderful to get out walking in the many green lanes, old drove roads and quiet country lanes.
Without feeling guilty that we should be weeding/watering/mowing/pruning the garden.
                    Pace of life slower.
                    People have time to chat.

For anyone who hasn't yet visited Scotland... do... it has a lot to offer.

How we will cope with the cold winters... not sure... time will tell!

I'm glad to hear you're happy, I think you were a little apprehensive about the move so I'm glad all is well. :dbgrtmb:

I can picture everything you have described! It's at least six years since I was last in the highlands and I'm well overdue for another visit, I feel so at home there and get a feeling that it's drawing me back from time to time. :)
