That would be for one that has already been "Bonsai'd" would it? Could you not get a young Wisteria and start it going yourself? There are so many beautiful Wisteria about now. :)

Lea , I`ve got few project going on .....but belive or not it`s really hard to find old trees for this project ......You can find an old tree , but it will need to be planted and see if it will survive 6 months before starting to work on it .....lost 2 potential yamodori last winter , even if they have lived in your garden for many years they will become very vulnerable when potted .

it`s a great way of using an unwanted tree

Sal: I think what you are referring to is called "ikadabuki" - might be worth googling that

If you can find a plant that has grown in a crevice in the rocks that will already have restricted root, and top, and will make an excellent Bonsai. A full size plant (e.g. a Wisteria from a garden centre) will be very hard to convert I think

Just had a look , on ebay looks fine he has others for sale at the moment £5.00 , depends how much you want to pay.

thought I would borrow this to show you

"Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 55-60F (13-15C). Sowing Depth: 0.25 Inch (6 mm). Sow at any time of year. Soak the seeds in hand hot water for 2 hours, if the seeds are large they can first be lightly filed at one point on the seed before soaking.
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in a cold frame and plant out the following spring into a nursery bed and grow on for 1-2 years and then plant out in final positions, in full sun."

Thank you Spruce. The instruction leaflet says to sow in march but I did think might be a bit conservative. I'm thinking I'll get them started now in the polytunnel. :)

              Hi Lea

I think just a bit late , if me I would wait till February March optimum time for them to grow through the year and get a decent size to get through the winter next year.
Not enough light or warmth to keep them going, but up to you and prove me wrong ;)

Thompson & Morgan do the seeds as well £1.49 for 5 seeds

Thanks Spruce. I bow to your superior knowledge and will wait. If there is one thing we gardeners learn, it is patience! :)

and pushed to the brink sometimes:ideaIPB:, most of my knowledge is trial and error and over the years try and grow one or two things I haven't before every year , I do a lot of research with my job so its second nature to do the same with plants . My biggest mistake in this new garden is planting a "ghost/pocket handkerchief tree in the wrong spot" and I daren't try digging it up and moving it as it hardly done nothing for 5 years and only in the last two it has started to look good and put growth on and cost me a packet !!! so I dont know how many years before I get a bract

I want a wisteria bonsai now , look what you have done now:ccheers:

I read in one bosai site about linseed feed never heard of that but will find out more
