Had me worried there, on the quick view that just came out as National March against the Badger

 

Just another example of how farming runs our countryside, I sympathise with farmers, but at the same time do they have to do what they have done for centuries in this country.

That is wipe out every living thing that might threaten intensive farming

I'm sure there must be other ways of tackling TB in cattle, that is, if it actually is badgers that are causing it.
Maybe the cattle are infecting the badgers, lots of buying and selling of cattle goes on, possibly spreading it also.

I guess the countryside is just a food factory, and they have to be spotless.

 

There is lots of movements between farms nower days, and the one thing that i do not see much is disinfectant being used, only ones that use it are the vets and the AI men/womem.

Contracters that do alot of muck spreading move from farm to farm and not much washing or disinfectant used on the vehicals

Has any of the farmers been tested for tb being that humans are a mammal as well

 

I am with JWK - don't know which side - but I have heard some farmers are against the cull - stating that it is the practice of farming that needs addressing rather than just killing our wildlife, and I think badgers are sweet - but there again I am a Londoner and we don't have them where I am. I can see both sides of the argument though but hate the thought of culling.

Using that information, you don't need to be a mathematical genius to work out that even if every single badger was each killed four times over every year that it wouldn't wipe out TB in cattle.

Maybe we should adopt intensive indoor dairy farming to avoid eliminating our indigenous wildlife?

 

They look a lot happier than some cows I've seen stuck out in a rain lashed field without even a single tree for shelter.

 

Am I right in thinking most cows seem to overwinter undercover anyway?

Its mostly sheep around here or horses, cows I dont see that often.

Its not nice but maybe its time dairy cows were reared in this way, afterall, most other animals are these days.

 

They do.

The cows in the video didn't look like they were having a bad time. I know i'd rather be in a barn than out in the elements if I had to walk around with no clothes on.

 

Most farmers keep they cows inside for the winter there are a few that still let them out (new Zeland Farming) but are going away form that, The US way of farming is here and more are going for that way, food bought to them and poo taken away, some are keeping cow in 24/7 with robots doing the milking, the cows just walk in to be milked when they want to be milked, It's all about taking care of them and leting the cow do what a cow wants to do, as Zigs said you wouldn't like to be out side when it tippinng it down with rain,

I found the straw a bit scratchy.

 

It was the free range eggs that spoiled it for me.

Anybody else been there? (West Somerset badger cull area) I missed Camp Badger at Doniford (Doniford Halt on the West Somerset Railway, now AKA Doniford Holt) but it's now at Bishops Lydeard.



Was there last week - Google that number.

P.S. I was down that way about 25-30 years ago when The Convoy were on the very same patch of land at Doniford and some ignorant local threatened to hit me with a lump of wood when I was several miles away.
