An incident occurred in a supermarket recently when the following was witnessed: A Muslim woman dressed in a Burkha (a black gown & face mask) was standing with her shopping in a queue at the checkout. When it was her turn to be served , and as she reached the cashier, she made a loud remark about the British Flag lapel pin which the female cashier was wearing on her blouse. ...The cashier reached............... up and touched the pin and said, 'Yes, I always wear it proudly. My son serves abroad with the forces and I wear it for him. The Muslim woman then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing and killing her countrymen explaining that she was Iraqi. At that point an elderly gentleman standing in the queue stepped forward and interrupted with a calm and gentle voice, and said to the ...Iraqi woman: 'Excuse me, but hundreds of thousands of British men and women, just like this ladies son have fought and sacrificed their lives so that people just like YOU can stand here in Britain , which is MY country, and allow you to blatantly accuse an innocent check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen. It is my belief that if you were allowed to be as outspoken as that in Iraq, which you claim to be YOUR country, then we wouldn't need to be fighting there today. However - now that you have learned how to speak out and criticize the British people who have afforded you the protection of MY country, I will gladly pay the cost of a ticket to help you pay your way back to Iraq. When you get there, and if you manage to survive for being as outspoken as what you are here in Britain, then you should be able to help straighten out the mess which YOUR Iraqi countrymen have got you into in the first place, which appears to be the reason that you have come to MY country to avoid.' Apparently the queue cheered and applauded. IF YOU AGREE... Pass this on to all of your proud British & other worldly friends.. I just did!!! It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. It's also nice to be British and proud

@pamdish - I think you've been misled as this seems like a hoax according to http://www.hoax-slayer.com/british-flag-muslim-woman-lapel-pin.shtml that's been circulating for about 10 years.

Always best to check them out first before posting.

And if any Mod or Admin is considering deleting this post as it's a load of nonsense, I suggest it's left as an example of mis-information posted on the web.

I've seen it on Bookface too. It is quite obvious its made up, but I don't think there's anything offensive about it. While the majority of muslims in the UK are ok (they must be, there's enough of them to cause real problems for everyone if they weren't), there are some that take advantage of our hospitality.

The article, as far as I can tell, is simply addressing the very valid point that some people play the race card to get their own way. There have been incidents of muslims preaching against us and being hippocrits by behaving in a way that wouldn't be allowed in most muslim countries in order to express their contempt for us. Worse than that, politicians and the do good brigade often seem to pander to them while ignoring the needs and views of other groups. It is that pandering that is going to create a massive problem for the UK, because to some, it gives the impression that all muslims are bad people, whereas if the ones that genuinely are bad people were dealt with and the race card lost its value, then surely the masses would then see that the majority are actually ordinary decent people rather than painting them all with the same brush.

So, in summary, while the article is made up, I personally see nowt wrong with it.

The truth is that the current and last government actively bred racism in the UK. Almost certainly deliberately. As much as we like to mock politicians, people at that level of power do have very good advisers. The majority of the ordinary people have resisted the brainwashing, but when some factions are allowed to play on people's fears, it doesn't help. So if truth is the first casualty of war, I'd suggest that first 'truth' to fall was the government's real attitude towards people who may have some type of connection to a country that they may at some point want public support to invade.

Another truth to fall is the truth that not all muslims are lovely people. Some do stand in the streets of our cities and rant hate about others, and some do have loyalties to those that would do us harm. These are of course a minority. A tiny minority at that, but as long as we're told that these people don't exist, or as long as it is a taboo to acknowledge it, then people's fears will grow.

"Truth is the first casualty of war". It is also the first thing to go when an absence of information triggers the mind to imagine the missing details. The article on Facebook, while clearly made up, does allow people to vent their frustrations. Even if it is simply seeing that someone else has thought a similar thought to them. The sooner we acknowledge that there are bad people as well as ok ones, the sooner we can stop pandering to those bad ones out of fear of being called a racist, and then move on and acknowledge that the vast majority are good people.

If truth is the first casualty of war, I'd suggest lack of any kind of information, true or otherwise, is the precursor to war.

I still cannot comprehend the minds of those that carried out the twin towers attacks. I cannot believe that anyone can justify that action. If Muslim beliefs were the reason for it then I will never be able to accept these people as my neighbours,

A few years ago I set forth on a research quest to learn about all the major religions and beliefs systems, so I could make sense of all the fuss in the media at the time.

I can't claim to be a master in any of it, because I haven't exactly lived it. But here goes.

Islam, the religion of muslims, does not teach violence and hate. In fact it teaches the exact opposite as far as I can tell. For example, the religion requires that a certain ratio of your income goes into a communal savings pot, which is kind of an insurance fund meant exclusively to help out anyone who is in dire straights (the financial predicament, not the band). The religion also compels all men of working age and ability to work hard so that they can look after their dependants and help out friends and family that find themselves in need of help.

Islam, as far as I can gather, also teaches tolerance. It teaches that non-muslims are, in essence, simply misguided, and a muslim is supposed to just accept such people anyway, but be ready to rejoice when they 'see the light' (and convert to Islam).

There is a bit about fighting in there unfortunately, but from what I can gather, the intention of the actual teaching is all honourable. It teaches that if you're friends, family or your land is threatened, if you are able to fight in their defence, it is your duty to do so. From what I can gather, the sentiment is basically that it is ok to defend yourself and your family and your land, but NOT ok to be the aggressor.

The problem arises from that last point I mentioned. Its open to interpretation. From I've read, with (I hope) an open mind and level head, its quite obvious what the point is. I guess from the fact that most muslims don't take up arms against us that its obvious to most muslims what it means to. The problem is when you get clever but nasty people twisting the meaning of the words to their own ends. To me, a duty to defend my land means that if Britain comes under attack, I should resist the attackers. To a twisted person that could mean, if I don't like someone else's culture, and especially if the government of that cultures orders an invasion into some land I don't even care about and is half way round the world, then I should 'fight' the ordinary innocent people who have nothing to do with it.
