I do have cavity wall insulation, and it has made a difference, I've also got at least 8ins in the loft.
I've got a couple of rads in the conservatory which obviously just bleeds heat out into the atmosphere, but I like the doors open, most of the time, which lead into there, I only shut them at night and during very cold spells,
Double glazing with E glass, not sure what else you can do.

My boiler is old but the general opinion seems to be the older ones are more reliable that condensing types.

I just think gas it priced too high.
I know they seem to be replacing every gas main in the country, (cant see why they all need doing right now), and we need to pay for that, but suppliers profits are not exactly small these days despite having to renew the pipes, and buy gas from Russia.

Roll on fracking I say, but I bet we wont notice the difference, it will all go to the fat cats.

    Thanks all :)

I did have a spreadsheet that worked out our consumption in units, and then into pounds and pence (reasonably accurately roughly if you know what I mean), but we haven't used it in almost a year now (always seems something better to do!). I really should dig it out again.

I will have to sit down and work out what times of operation I think we want, and get the programmer set before winter kicks in; I ordered new tension poles last night for our door curtains (we put a thick curtain up in the empty doorway between the living room and the kitchen last year, and it made a remarkable difference), as whilst we were at it we treated ourselves to some nice new flannelette bed sheets and covers, which should be nice and soft and cosy. Thankfully, I rescued a flat screen LCD TV that was being sent for disposal about 18 months ago (it was practically new), repaired it, and its now sat in the corner of our bedroom - handy on those really baltic nights, we can just huddle up in bed and watch TV instead of running the heating.

When I joined British gas a couple of years ago they sent me a "free gift" worth £30 they said.

It was some stupid thing to put round the incoming electric cable which was then connected some how to a digital read out that you could place anywhere you wanted in the house.
I placed mine at the local tip, a while back.

What is the point? I have a meter, I can read how many units its clocking up.

FC you should not have to huddle up in bed to keep warm this is the 21st century.

Its not so much that we have to pete - just that sometimes it is just as well to do that, especially as we are early bedders anyway.

EDIT - and since my last post, we have flicked the heating on for an hour, as there was a wee chill going on. I'm coming down with the lurgy, so think that is making me feel a bit colder than normal.

We have one. Surprising how often we walked past it and wondered why it was reading so high, only to find that something had been left on. It was reading high once when we were headed off out ... had left the oven on :hate-shocked:

I'm not expecting to put the heating on for another month. We have good insulation, and good thermal mass in the building.
