My grandfather used to grow chrysanthemum, apparently he used to visit his local every night, emptied the ashtrays into a bag and boil it all up to make a nicotine spray for them.

Do I have to crawl round the smokers corner in the local pub , collecting dog ends , that is going to look so so wrong

Blight also affects tomatoes, and many growers ban smoking/smokers from near their crops due to tobacco mossaic virus, so no good for them:

Here's an extract from one of my old Books, Harry, on the subject of the use of Nicotine.

"Nicotine and Soap Wash: This is a most powerful insecticide for the destruction of Aphids, Apple Sucker, Cuckoo Spit, Leaf Miners, and all forms of young caterpillars. It's formula is:

          Nicotine [96% purity] - 1 and a half to 2 and a half ozs
          Soft soap - 4 ozs
          Soft water - 20 gallons

Pour the Nicotine into the dissolved soap in the water, and apply as a fine spray, but avoid using it on any plants the leaves of which are likely to be cooked or eaten in less than 4 or 5 weeks. The same remark applies to fruit."

Many thanks for the heads-up Ziggy, I'll stock up while I can.
I've still got some Dithane 945 which is good for blight control as I stocked up when it was about to be withdrawn but it will only last another season.

Well found Armandii !:blue thumb: But where on earth would you buy 2 ozs of pure nicotine
As Dave I have enough Dithane for this year. I am sure there will be a thread on here next winter explaining our options.

                    Hiya Kristen.

I've heard before about making it from scratch, but I guess I would rather leave it to those who know what they're doing. Having said that, there may well come a time when there's no choice but to make it yourself.
