2013 Onion Growing Challenge

Pretty sure I've had at least one like that. I notice it's out of shape, suggesting it's divided inside. I'd say it needs using up as soon as possible, it might even be un-useable.

 

It's a bit of a pain having gone to all this trouble, and end up with less than satisfactory results. I think the fact that they are so 'fleshy' makes them more susceptible to problems, sadly.

 

I'm going to chop and freeze some of mine so as i don't waste any...especially after all the effort i've put in

@JWK ...yes no problem John....you can open freeze them to save them all sticking together then bag them up but it causes too much of a pong....so just chop and double bag....and then when you want to use them a good wack will separate them...no good in a sandwich but good for cooking with

 

You could Caramelise them, takes a while to do it, but worth it

Now I buy bags of caramelised onions from the Welsh Supermarket, so they must have a way of drying them afterwards, but I can't find any info on that.

Just to fill you in a bit more about the Long Red Florence. If memory serves, I sowed the seed in early March, planting out in May. I believe it's an Onion originated from Italy

 

From Florence perhaps?

I drove past Florence once, the coach didn't leave the motorway, would have loved to visit

Still remember seeing the red roof tops.
