    Indeed :)

"Triumph of design over function" would be no use to you at all ... unless you want to stroll out there with your mates nursing G&T's and dropping your H's of course :)

Hi Silu........I decided to have toughened glass in my greenhouse (aluminium) mainly because of the gale force winds we have here during the winter months. The extra weight not only helps to keep the greenhouse in situ (which is bolted down anyway) but also doesn't blow out as easily. Having said that I lost a pane the winter before last during a force nine but the greenhouse itself didn't budge or twist. There's also the added protection for the roof should it be in an area where it's likely to suffer damage from branch falls etc.

Well mine's a large whisky and soda and I wouldn't dream of dropping my h's.......often anyway!!!!,especially after my poor late Mum went to the trouble of doing her best to turn her tomboy daughter into a charming young lady and sent me for elocution lessons ("how now brown cow" and all that) in the hope of me having perfect diction, however I fear there is very little evidence of me ever having had voice training these days, altho I have been told I swear very poshly!!!!!

Thanks for your information Sheal, oh the dilemma. No likelihood of anything falling on the greenhouse now the Ash is down, except that is for snow which put paid to my last greenhouse. That was a pretty cheapish affair (here when we bought the house) and I don't know if toughened glass would fair better, when, not if (sigh!) we get fairly hefty falls. Before I 100% make up my mind I will try and speak to an unbiased greenhouse manufacturer (this could be tricky to achieve!) and see what they say.If the green house was going to be sited where some little "darling" could throw stones at it or I had small children about the place then there would be no contest but neither applies. There is a substantial difference as I'm putting up a 20 ft x 10 (well I have quit the cigarettes so spending my cigarette savings!) and need convincing the extra cost of toughened is worth it.
