Red Peppers

Banana skin wouldn't do any harm, and might work eh?

I waited ages for some to turn colour one year, there were from plants I had bought at the garden centre. When I checked the label of the "useless *$£&! peppers" I found they were called Green Boy

 

Thanks Kristen. I've grown mine from seed and the packet definitely states RED peppers, unless of course it was the wrong seed in the packet. They are in the greenhouse with my tomatoes so yes, banana skins are probably worth a try and they will also give the tomatoes a 'hurry up'. My tomato plants are absolutely loaded with fruit, ripe and green, but with the lack of heat now I can't see many more ripening, so frustrating!

If you have a lot of fruit on the plants I would thin them too. Sacrifice some green ones into the cooking pot

 

is there outdoor varieties of sweet pepper

Having given up on my red peppers actually turning red ( a seed mix up I think) here are the first three.

Thanks Zigs. I won't be able to do a flavour test as I don't eat them. These three got whisked away by my daughter today.

 

@Sheal ....i picked a few green ones and left them in a dish in the kitchen ..they soon turned red

 

Thanks Loli, I'll give that a try. They are starting to rot on the plant now, so I'll bring the good ones in, nothing to lose.

 

Well, I harvested the crop, 3 Peppers Didn't look too much like the picture on the packet. Quite small, but very fresh Had 'em with our dinner tonight, very nice too

 

Well that's the first and last time I'll be growing peppers! I had a good crop and as you see above the fruits were a good size but none of them actually turned red either on the plant or indoors. Perhaps it's just not warm enough here for them. The three that I gave to my daughter she roasted and the report was that they were bitter, so none actually reached the dinner plate, very disappointing. The remaining fruits on the one and only plant started to rot, perhaps because of the cooler weather so now they've all been binned. I'll try something different next year.

Have you all had success with yours?

 

Done all right here, in previous years I have grown green ones because the Red ones do take a couple of weeks longer to "turn", and during that time they aren't setting / producing more fruit, so I kinda resent the extra ripening time

 

Hiya Sheal.

As I said in an earlier post, I only had 3 fruits (3 plants), so I'm not very impressed. I will however try them again next year, but probably plant them into the greenhouse border. If that don't work, then that'll probably be it.
