Hi I am Steve, welcome to GC. You will like it here, and find the best advice on the net, given by REAL gardeners, sadly I am not one of the experts, but can give my experiences, and hope it helps.

You need to decide what you want to do with the land, and then choose the appropriate topic.. the folks here will do you well.

    Have fun.

:sign0016: to Gardeners Corner Jason. There's plenty of advice here on just about all aspects of gardening. 2000 sq. meters is a lot of land to manage. Has it been used as a garden before? Would love to know more, and some pictures always help folks understand what you have and what you want to do with it,
    enjoy having a wander round,
    Jenny namaste

Oooh yes, tell us more. Where is the house? Can we have photos?
Everybody in Bulgarian villages seems to have a wonderful veg garden and they are really keen on home-grown and preserving still, we seem to have lost the art here.

Hi to everyone and thanks for your reply's.The House and garden which incuding the bottom garden is around 3500sq mtrs is in a small village just outside Dobrich. Most of the bulgarians and few brits nearly self sufficient. All the gardens have grape vines and most have a range of other crops and livestock. Its all about using the land and fertile soil to live.At the moment my place has a few fruit trees including wall nut, pear and apple. This year after fighting back the jungle of grape vines and weeds well above head height me and a friend with a mini digger managed to flatten the land and I covered it with a strong weed killer. My plan is to go over next April to seed a lawn(at least at the top half of the garden)Also to plant a range of fruit tree using them as a border at the back of the garden. As it gets very hot there in summer and I wont be there the full year I need plants and fruit trees that are drought loving.Would love to know the best way to seed grass, things like preparing the soil ect. Also as I will only be there for 2 weeks in April then not back untill the end of July would it be ok to just leave the grass to grow then chop it down when I return or would I need to find somone to cut it every few weeks?Be great to get some advice from the experts

I get the feeling that the soil is somewhat impoverished and lacking in humus? Is that so please? I think grape vines are OK with these conditions but fruit trees wouldn't do well I think, and the land would need to be enriched,

Ah, then probably what I am seeing is the result of the weed killer. I think figs like to struggle a bit and dislike too much pampering.
