    Hello everyone

I have a Camellia in a pot which is looking nice and healthy - pic attached. At some stage I want to put it in the ground and ideally before it becomes pot bound. Is this the right time of year or should I wait until after the flowering season?

    Thanks

    Hi

If me I would plant now as the soil is still warm/moist and it will root out before the onset of winter , it may need a stake for the 1st year or two just to stop any windrock and this will help the roots settle in more quickly , once planted give it a good water to settle the soil in and I would give it a mulch of bark a good two inches all around don't feed this Autumn but a spring feed would probably beneficial

According to gardeners world last night, now is the best time to plant them.

Is your soil acid or alkaline? if acid plant anytime now but if not, a good size specimen as yours is would benefit from digging in some ericaceous compost.

        Thanks everyone.
Soil is acidish(live in Dublin close to the coast) but I plan to put some ericaceous compost in anyway. Well that's good to know everyone except now I have to go out in the cold and get to work :frown:

One other thing - about location/aspect. I think west/south facing is suggested because of frost on east facing? I'm really tight for space, but I do have a spot which is east facing, but well sheltered by black bamboo (pic attached). Would this be too cold?
        Thanks
