The hazelnut bushes are finally near their end in terms of shedding the nuts. Since the nuts were growing high up out of my reach, I could do nothing but wait for them to drop and hope the squirrels did not eat them all. This year I've managed to collect 11.5lb of them.

The strong winds keep on blowing the apples off the tree. So between the showers I went out and picked some of them. The ones in the bowl have been damaged by birds, wasps, slug / snails ...or bruised while fallen off, so they will be eaten first. The others I'm going to wrap them up individually in newspaper and store for later.

My first hazel crop. I planted the bushes to coppice for bean poles, but as I've got enough cheap (25p for bundles of 5) canes from Wilkos to last me at least 10 years I might just coppice every other bush.

Prepare to be bored Jenny  In an iron foundry when you clean of the casting flash , you Fettle it. It also means to repair something.

Quince jelly making this week. This might be our last crop as the tree has spilt into 2 and I've had to support the largest part (the only bit that produces fruit) that's now at 45° to stop it snapping off completely.
