Looks like those of us in the south could be in for a bit of a blowy time into the start of next week - BBC News; I just wonder how accurate the forecast will be.

Funny, but one of the things that I sort of miss about back home was the 'proper' autumnal storms - cooried up in bed listening to the wind howling, the rain lashing the windows, and wondering if the roof was going to manage to survive the next gust of wind.......

Earlier this week I was getting a little concerned when looking at wind forecast maps for Monday and seeing colours on them I haven't seen before, hitting South Wales and then moving over Central England, but current forecasts show lower wind speeds further south:

I take it that those deep reds into violets are a sign of low pressure and high winds then @Scrungee?

Ok, so we need Batteries, clean drinking water, warm clothing, duvets, food and a shovel.

All the leaves are still on the trees so they will be like huge sails like it was in 1987

Yes, bought some today. I don't think the weather is going to be quite so bad up here but the vessels won't be sailing though. It's blowing a good'un out there now as I can hear stuff moving around, it's probably my carport roof wanting to move house.

Ah. Maybe I won't bother trying to fix the greenhouse roof then.

I hope all small boats will have the sense to make for port and wait until it passes. The southerly wind, if combined with a high tide, will bring problems to coastal buildings,
                        Jenny
still, we have the weekend to prepare.

Good grief @Zigs - have I taught you nothing in the time I have been here! Your checklist should be:

                          - Clean drinking water
                          - Duvets and blankets
                          - Plenty of firewood
                          - Batteries
                          - Battery radio
                          - Torch/candles/tilly lamp
                          - A couple of good books
                          - A couple of bottles of something spiritual and associated dilution fluid (also known as a mixer)
                          - Chainsaw and a few cans of petrol so you can offer to clear any fallen trees and clear the wood back to yours for firewood :)

Looks like the South Coast is going to bear the brunt of it. I wonder if @Jenny namaste will be taking her camera out to take some stormy weather pics for us?
