Love the pictures Dave, it's a part of Scotland I've not been to and looks a little like Norway. The same empty roads too. :)

I've got a class A amateur licence Ziggy. The antenna in the photo is a 8m roach pole holding aloft an antenna for the 20m amateur band.
The radio is a little very low power tranceiver- puts out 10 Watts max, but using morse I can work pretty long distances. I worked Fiji a couple of weeks ago from home, though was using a big antenna which helps a lot.
The real plus, apart from size and weight of the radio - an Elecraft KX3, is the receiver which is a about as good as they get. The only non-commercial radio with a better receiver is a Hiberling and that would set you back 13,690 euros!

Photo - my KX3 and morse mini paddle keyer on its first outing in the van.At the time I was using 8 AA internal batteries and running just 5 Watts but still managing contacts with the USA.

The west coast is beautiful Sheal. Going after the end of the main tourist season made for very quiet roads during the 100+ miles after we turned west off the fairly busy A9.

What a strawberry bed looks like if you creep up on them on a cold, dark night ....

I love the west coast too. The last time I was up there we stayed in two self catering places. One was 20 miles north of Ullapool and the other right on the edge of Loch Awe. Beautiful! :)
