Brugmansias

Brugmansia vulcanicola Lavender is just coming into flower in the greenhouse - thats a plant that I picked up in the Jungle Plants sale in September :

And Ive got some cracking flowers on the Daturas that Ive grown from seed :

How people can call that a weed & not worth the (minimal) effort is beyond me.

 

That's a nice one! Should be easier to overwinter too maybe?

I totally agree! D.wrightii is my Datura of choice - I usually keep it for a couple of years and then replace it.

 

Nick , I`ve seen the sale too late and they where sold out , I`ve only managed to get the pink ice brugmansia .

 

today I`ve dug up the brugmansia and found this one on it



it was woody and hard

Did you manage to find some more cold group brugs?

 

Do some more gooling for more info,that was just a quick search sal x
Ive not looked for anymore brugs for a while,im hoping the 3 you sent me survived in sheds over winter ive taken some some small cuttings to see if i can overwinter/grow on more in smaller pots
I will take the larger cuttings soon or prob tomo when the oncoming storm has blown my blossoms & buds off x

I`ve moved mine in the greenhouse , but they seam not stop flowering and seeding



my sanguinea have become a flower machine , but not chance for seeds , any help?



for the others I wanted to do some cutting for propagation , but i seam they are making seeds pods and don`t really want to kill them ...will they be ok if I leave them till spring?

 

Wish mine had! I did leave it outdoors all last winter though

 

Longk , unfortunatly the Sanguinea is market as hardy in Uk , it will not die to heavy frost but it will take too long to recovery and never flowering , overall can take -8c and then turn to mash ...almost like a musa basjoo ...it will take at least 3 years to flower at this point if protected.

 

I've left sanguinea out over winter and as Sal says it loses it top growth at about minus 1 or 2.

The root survives if mulched and it makes a great foliage plant the following summer abut 4 to 5 ft high, but it wont flower.

I've also found the brugs just want to flower at this time of the year if brought inside a cool greenhouse, but space means I have to cut back.
I'd not bother with seeds unless you have pollinated to create your own hybrids, you will just end up with lots of plants to keep next winter.

 

I would like to give them a trim as they take loads of space in the greenhouse , but as one is flowering and the other is making seeds , will leave like that .

I really wanted to create some hybrids but don`t have many variety at the monent , but I`ve notice that thepink brugmansia produce seeds pods not stop , I`ll may have a go and try to cross the 2
