I won't reveal this particular location but this is the home of the man who sits in the Top Gear 'hot seat'.

The Herring tower in the same area. Flares were lit on this tower before the appearance of lighthouses.

The Calf of Man the home of the famous Chicken Rock lighthouse on it's far side.

Excellent photos Sheal, really gives us a flavour of the island. :blue thumb:
I'm intrigued by the Herring tower, any idea how it came to have that name?

I would imagine its from "Caller Herring" a look out post where a lad would shout to the fleet when he spotted the Herring shoals.

Thanks Trunky. The 'Herring Tower' was built to guide the herring fishing fleets into port and later used for shipping until lighthouses appeared. :)

Great pics Sheal - brought back memories of a lovely holiday I had there a few years ago and remember the Laxey wheel, Port Erin and some of the other land marks in your pics . Was on a coach trip with a friend and they took us round most of the island. I remember we went on an open type train and going over a bump it threw us out of our seats and almost out of the side of the train.
Very lovely island - lucky you!

Thanks Annie. :) I hope the weather was kind to you! I'm a bit puzzled about your 'open train' tale, I can only think it was the Electric Railway as our steam trains pull closed carriages.

This is Groudle a small bay on the south east side of the island. Sorry, the scenery is beginning to look pretty much the same now.

This is a short railway that runs along the top through Groudle Glen during the summer.

As we came away today I spotted this ship on it's way into Douglas, it wasn't until I looked through my lens I realised in wasn't our own 'Ben-My-Chree'
