Same here, the big pumpkin drew them in. My wife counted over 60 came to the door (not counting the ones that we noticed came back a second time :)), we nearly ran out of sweets. They were all really good and polite and gone to some effort in dressing up and make-up. We took the grandkids to a few of our neighbours and a couple of the parents had also gone to great lengths, dressing up and jumping out to scare the kids as they came to the door. Our two year old was petrified.

Pumpkins are now only 10p at Sainsburys and it's a nationwide offer (previously £3). I only managed to get one otherwise Mrs Scrungee would've had me eating pumpkin soup for a couple of months.

Only got a two visits last night, not really the area for it. One kid did shout 'I like your pumpkin!' So it was all worth it after all.

That's how the genetics are improved...and most of the bigger ones are crossed with other whoppers.

Looks to me like the pumpkin was dropped from above and is a little squashed...

                Steve...:)

Result! There are some real bargains to be had if you're in the right place at the right time (or get tipped off).

@Lolimac Are you carving or eating them, or both?

P.S. Rumour has it that Sainsburys will be reducing all their Halloween stuff by 70% on Sunday.

My 'Sumo' was supposed to look that shape....i wonder why i don't seem to have much success in growing anything bigger than a football:scratch:

It's the 'tip offs' that do the trick;):ccheers: Scrungee:dbgrtmb:....
I'm going to eat every last one:dbgrtmb:

I've used the hydration method shown in http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Gallery/GalleryImg/IMG_8549_2.JPG when I've cut marrows a day or so before the local heaviest marrow competition, trimming the stem immediately prior to staging.

But I had my water container inverted and held above the marrow, rather like a hospital drip, hoping it might actually add a bit to the weight.
